AI for Materials · Materials for AI
We rebuilt materials manufacturing and innovation from a project-based discipline into a loop-based system. AI Harness orchestrates design, synthesis, measurement, and learning in a closed loop—evolution no longer waits for people; people define the direction of evolution.
Four stages are causally linked and endlessly connected. Every batch of new data the model ingests automatically triggers the next most informative set of experiments.
Generative models propose candidates across molecular and formulation spaces; physics simulation pre-screens them so only the most information-rich directions reach the lab. Every design carries a clear expected information gain.
Automated liquid handling, coating, and curing cells receive digital work orders and prepare samples in parallel. Formulation, process parameters, and environmental data are digitally recorded end-to-end—each sample is also a data point.
Dielectric, thermal, mechanical, and reliability test pipelines run in parallel; results are structured into the data lake and ready for model consumption the same day.
The model updates its understanding of the structure–process–property map, computes the expected utility of the next experiments, and schedules them—returning to the start for another turn of the loop.
Harness is the nervous system of the loop: it compiles R&D intent into experiment queues, dispatches automated cells, recovers data, and triggers the next iteration—turning "long-horizon, efficient, high-throughput" from slogan into default behavior.
Material problems are decomposed into parallelizable experiment graphs, automatically assigned to instruments and time windows.
The loop runs 7×24; anomalies trigger automatic shutdown and alerts, so people focus on judgment rather than manual operation.
End-to-end data lineage from raw-lot IDs to test curves makes every conclusion reproducible.
Scheduling strategies continuously improve from historical data; the loop turns faster and more accurately over time.
| Dimension | Traditional R&D | polyqolor Self-Driving Loop |
|---|---|---|
| Pace | Project-based, serial progress | Continuous loop, iteration never stops |
| Experiment decisions | Reliant on individual experience and intuition | Model plans by expected information gain |
| Data form | Scattered across reports and spreadsheets | Structured into reusable data assets |
| Knowledge retention | Lost with staff turnover | Encoded in models that compound |
| Scale-up path | Lab and pilot disconnected | Pilot harness stays synchronized with the loop |
Formulation, process, structure, and performance data share one machine-readable schema that models can consume directly.
Domain models continuously trained on proprietary data understand chemical language and process constraints.
A simulation chain from molecular dynamics to finite element analysis provides physics guardrails for generative models.
Every experiment—success or failure—adds to the model's position. The data foundation lets polyqolor's R&D efficiency pull away exponentially over time: the longer the loop runs, the deeper the moat.
